earn KrisFlyer miles with Air India

Singapore Airlines and Air India begin a new bilateral frequent flyer program agreement.

The frequent flyer programme members of both airlines will now be able to earn and redeem mileage points on flights operated by each other. This means members of Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer program can now earn KrisFlyer miles when they fly with Air India, or choose to redeem their miles for flights with the Indian carrier.

Likewise, members of Air India’s Flying Returns program have the option of using their miles on Singapore Airlines flights or earning miles when they fly on Singapore Airlines.

“The addition of Air India as a KrisFlyer partner boosts the number of carriers we have such agreements with to 28. Those who fly frequently with Singapore Airlines and Air India now have more opportunity to increase their frequent flyer miles, and more choice in deciding how best to use their miles,” says Huang Cheng Eng, Singapore Airlines’ executive vice president marketing and the regions.

Singapore Airlines operates 42 times a week to 6 destinations in India. With the inclusion of subsidiary carrier SilkAir, the Singapore Airlines route network covers 93 destinations in 38 countries.

Singapore Airlines is a member and Air India has been announced as a future member of the Star Alliance, which was established in 1997 as the first global airline alliance.

In addition to Air India, Aegean Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Continental Airlines and TAM have been announced as future members of the Star Alliance, with Continental set to join the alliance on October 27. Overall, the Star Alliance network offers 17,000 daily flights to 916 destinations in 160 countries.

Virgin Blue Group CEO, Brett Godfrey, said the new flights would make air travel more affordable for more New Zealanders.

“Travellers in regional New Zealand have made it clear that they want the same easy access to low fares that the three main centres enjoy and our announcements today go a long way to achieving that,” he said.

“When the new services start Pacific Blue will have international flights from six New Zealand airports – Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin and Queenstown – which is more than any other airline.”
“As much as Kiwis enjoy a warm weather holiday in Australia, we know that Aussies love to visit the stunning scenery of Queenstown for adventure and ski holidays or simply to relax, and now they’ll be able to do that at a reasonable price,” Mr Godfrey said.

The airline also announced it would introduce a direct daily jet service between Dunedin and Auckland to replace its current Dunedin-Christchurch-Auckland service.

Pacific Blue said it was making some changes to its trans-Tasman, Pacific and domestic schedules to accommodate the new routes. This included reducing capacity on domestic services by around 1% of available seat kilometres and retiming some domestic flights to offer a more “business friendly” timetable.

Virgin Blue has committed one of its executive-style Embraer E-190 jets onto the new routes, an aircraft which has the capacity to carry 104 Guests on each sector, upload more freight and reduce the overall flying time to and from the mainland.

“The secret is finally out! Being literally only a few hours from Perth, Christmas and Cocos Islands are hands down two of the best, unspoilt and truly unique island holiday destinations our region has to offer. As with other markets we’ve entered we’re confident our new services will further stimulate tourism to these most remarkable jewels in the Indian Ocean and also help to strengthen relations with the mainland.”

“It’s also great news for the people of Perth, who now have the option to fly domestically or internationally non-stop to 13 unique destinations on the Virgin Blue Airlines Group network,” he added.
The Cocos Islands is made up of two flat, low laying atolls and 27 coral islands surrounded by azure blue waters. Offering a secluded, tranquil and uncomplicated holiday experience, Cocos Island is a true nature and water lover’s paradise. Be it snorkelling, diving, island hopping, reef walking or fishing, bike riding, beach combing, bird watching, or golf, the Cocos Islands has something for everyone.
The World Heritage Listed Christmas Island, which is renowned for its red crab migration in October and November, is the Galapagos of the Indian Ocean, boasting an incredible 35 endemic species and acting as a breeding station for over 80,000 tropical sea birds. Surrounded by a narrow tropical reef which plunges into a bottomless abyss, Christmas Island is an oasis for marine life, teeming with hundreds of species of coral and tropical fish, dolphins and majestic whale sharks.

While the new flights are within the Australian domestic network, all services to and from Australia will arrive into and depart from Perth International Airport.
